Dark Fields - Exciting and playable piece for young bands. Beginning with a low, moody Andante section, it is followed by a Vivace section with mad melodies and lots of drumming hits. Only the Clarinet is split but it is in unison for most of the piece and never crosses the break. All ranges are playable by 1st-year players.

Snow in the city

Let It Snow!  - Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!, also known as Let It Snow, is a song written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in July 1945. It was written in Hollywood, California, during a heat wave as Cahn and Styne imagined cooler conditions. This is playable for 2nd-year players and has split parts to provide easier ranges for younger players and add more harmonic texture. The Drum Set part can be split into separate parts for a more traditional concert setting if desired.

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer - Gene Autry, the Singing Cowboy, made this song famous. This arrangement has a fun swing style to it. Harmonization is slightly more advanced from a Grade I tune, but the rhythms and ranges are very approachable for young musicians. The style lets them experience a standard swing feel. The percussion is written for a drum set but can be separated as a traditional percussion part. Sleighbells can have as many players as you want. I often had children come from the audience and give them little toy sleigh bells to play. This was always a big hit.

A Galaxy Marches On March by Kyle McKinzey KyleMac Music

A GALAXY MARCHES ON  - Inspired by Holst's "Mars". It has a dark and emotive feel to let your students increase their expressive musicality. This would work as a short concert piece or even a march. It's a great piece to introduce kids to Holst and his music.

The Addams Family Theme Song - The Addams Family theme song was written and composed by Vic Mizzy in 1964 for the television show "The Addams Family," which aired from 1964 to 1966. Mizzy created the iconic "finger-snapping" rhythm of the song, which became a distinctive feature of the show. The theme song's lyrics describe the quirky and macabre Addams family members and their unconventional lifestyle. The Addams Family theme song became a cultural phenomenon,
and its popularity led to numerous cover versions and adaptations in various media.

The sound effects in the Percussion 2 part are suggestions. Feel free to add your own flavor and increase the kids creativy.

BATTLE SCAR - This exciting piece for young concert band will thrill them and your audience. While the ranges are suitable for all 2nd-year players, the rhythms and percussion make this a level 1.5. The rhythm for all wind parts are mostly unison. Low brass is almost entirely unison. Percussion is much more aggressive but can be played with fewer players/parts if necessary.

Chance concert band by Kyle McKinzey KyleMac Music

CHANCE - Original composition based on a couple of melodic ideas. Those ideas are expanded stylistically, texturally and rhythmically. This piece introduces the aleatoric techniques to young students. The instrument ranges and rhythms are still easily in a 2nd-year player's ability allowing them to sound like a much older group. While I list it as a Grade 2, it may be closer to a 3 for younger groups. Middle school & high school groups will enjoy this piece.

Lil-Nas-X14.jpg

Industry Baby - The recent hit by Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow. This is a fun tune for the stands and pep rallies as well as an indoor concert. It starts with a big fanfare and continues with a beat that will have the crowd moving.

This is scored for marching band but could be used in a concert setting. The ranges are geared for intermediate players and up. Both Letter and Folio size parts are included.

Spooky pic.png

March of the Spooky Things - March of the Spooky Things uses the theme from Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg in his Peer Gynt Suite. This is a great piece for the fall or spring concert. All the wind ranges are within the range of a 2nd-year or 1st-year 2nd semester year player. There are lots of spooky moments and everyone gets the melody, including a percussion feature.

Munsters.png

The Munsters Theme Song "THE MUNSTERS” was an American sitcom airing on CBS from 1964 to 1966. The music, by Jack Marshall, was described by writer Jon Burlingame as a "Bernard-Herrmannmeets-Duane-Eddy sound".

This arrangement has fun bass lines, so they will enjoy this and need to work on it sounding creepy. The rest of the winds are more suitable for 1st & 2nd-year players. Ex. The 2nd clarinets do not cross the break. The percussion is written for a drum set but can be separated as a traditional part of a concert band. As usual, I have included plenty of percussion parts to go around. The sound effects in the Percussion 2 part are suggestions. Feel free to add your own flavor. Let the kids be creative.

San Antonio sunrise concert band by Kyle McKinzey KyleMac Music

San Antonio Sunrise - Original composition inspired by spending a week at the annual TMEA convention. Opening segment reminiscent of my early morning walks to the Gonzalez CC. The instrumentation, rhythms, and ranges definitely fit a grade 2 work but sound much bigger. It is easily playable by a young band but would fit well with an older band looking for a nice melodic concert piece. I also have a marching show based on these themes.

Trailhead Image.jpg

Trailhead Overture - While hiking in Big Bend National Park, I came to a beautiful spot that was the trailhead for several different trails. That was the inspiration for this piece. This should be considered an easier Grade 2. The ranges and rhythms are appropriate for 2nd-year players. The opening should reflect the bigness and majesty of Big Bend. If you haven’t seen it - find it! Have fun and thank you for playing this piece. I’d love to hear your thoughts and any questions.

ENTHEOS - (Gr. 3) A loud and frantic piece. It is the root of the word "Enthusiasm". It was also a celebration of the god Dionysus, where worshippers danced wildly while tearing a wild bull apart with their hands and teeth. This was accompanied by frantic music with loud cymbals so I include that tradition here.

OVERTURE TO A WANDERING MIND - This is one of my most beloved compositions. The title alone is my favorite and aptly describes the zaniness of the piece. Tensions Are Rising - Pic.png

Tensions Are Rising (Gr. 4) This is an engaging and dynamic piece of music designed for a Grade 4 concert band. Set in F minor, this composition takes listeners on a captivating journey through a range of emotions. Beginning with an Adagio intro setting a somber and introspective tone.  This section allows for rich harmonic development and melodic exploration, building anticipation for what's to come.
As the Allegro section unfolds, the tempo quickens and the piece transitions into a more lively and spirited atmosphere. The strong rhythms and crashing harmonization come to the forefront, creating a sense of urgency and excitement. The full band instrumentation is utilized to its fullest extent, with each section of the ensemble contributing to the overall intensity of the music.
With its dramatic contrasts and powerful harmonies, "Tensions Are Rising" is sure to be a standout addition to any concert band's repertoire. It offers both performers and audiences an opportunity to experience a range of emotions and musical expressions within a single composition.
