The Holder family is my dad's mom side of the family. We've been having reunions at the same little community center as long as I can remember. Other than the vinyl faux-wood floor and the addition of another out of tune piano, it hasn't changed. Except it's in color now. All my memories of it are black & white. It still has a Chief on the men's room. I still trip on the same step. It has the same books in the "library" - about 6. It also has Handicap Parking. Don't remember that before. The unique thing is that no matter which reunion I go to, the same people are at both.
Anyway, when I was younger, say birth to 45, I never wanted to go. Same old people, same initial comfort-setting jokes - same. Maybe because I'm 52 now, maybe because I've lost so much family, I knew I had to go. I knew I really wouldn't know these people, but they're still family. Everyone that was able was there. All 13 of us. I was definitely on the young side. I know why kids & 20-38 year olds don't come. Their either kids or they have kids. Where is my age? There were 3 in my age group. Are we selfish, lazy, busy or unaware?
It was all the same but somehow it was all different this time. It was a good day.
